Description
Completed in 2007, the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters is an eight-story, 1,508,013-square-foot federal office complex rising 128 feet in Suitland, Maryland. The $331 million project consists of two long, curving buildings separated by a central courtyard designed to maximize daylight penetration and interior efficiency.
The structure utilizes precast concrete columns and beams with cast-in-place lightweight concrete beam tops and lightweight concrete floor slabs. This hybrid system delivered the speed and precision of precast construction while reducing structural dead load and maintaining long-term strength and durability. The project earned LEED Gold certification and received the GSA Design Excellence Award.
