Description

Kufjordbrua is a long-span fjord crossing in northern Norway constructed using balanced cantilever methods with a prestressed concrete box girder superstructure. Designed to withstand harsh marine exposure and demanding environmental conditions, the bridge required a structural system capable of minimizing dead load while maintaining high strength and durability.

Structural lightweight concrete made with Stalite Lightweight Aggregate was used in the cantilevered box girder segments. By reducing concrete density while achieving required compressive strength, the lightweight mix improved span efficiency, reduced stresses during erection, and enhanced overall structural performance in a marine environment.
