Description
The Atlanta City Hall Green Roof is a 3,300-square-foot rooftop terrace located on the fifth floor of City Hall in downtown Atlanta. Positioned just outside the public cafeteria, the green roof functions as both a public gathering space and a demonstration project for sustainable urban design.
The project showcases the performance advantages of engineered lightweight planting media in rooftop applications. Stalite supplied the specifications for the growing media, which included PermaTill lightweight expanded slate blended with coarse sand and organic components to create a free-draining, structurally efficient soil system. The media was pneumatically conveyed approximately 70 feet onto the roof during installation.
Open to the public during regular City Hall hours, the garden continues to demonstrate the long-term durability and environmental benefits of lightweight aggregate in green roof systems.
